What breed should I choose?

Good advice about the quarantining, but actually I am just gathering information at the moment, and am not planning on getting the new birds till next Spring. I figure that I may as well enjoy some brand new chicks again, since I need to keep them separate in any case, and I won't have time for that until next year. I seem to be missing the rooster more than the girls are, so waiting will be hardest on me

I have a bantam Cochin, and he's friendly, gentle, and yet does his job- watches out for the girls and finds them treats. He's also got a quieter crow...can only hear him 2 blocks away, not 6...

I also have an EE roo who is a dear, dear doll, but he had very special handling all the time, due to a beak issue which sometimes requires hand-feeding. Gotta say he's nicer than all of my lap-dog hens, even!

I agree. I love my black giant hens. They are so docile and easy to handle. I've already decided the next batch of chickens I get are going to be more of these. Lovely birds.

I love the good looks of my Golden Cuckoo Maran roo, he really is something and he's only 19 weeks old.

I have a barred rock roo and a buckeye roo. The BR is a bit skittish but has a regal stance and the girls like him a lot. The buckeye is much friendlier to me (maybe it has to do with nursing him back to health after a dog attack?) and is simply gorgeous.

some EEs are more like game then anything else.
And I agree, they are very handsome! OMG, the fox story made me think of my old rooster!!! He was a EE, and he defended his ladies...to the death... against a hawk. A BIG HAWK. Bigger then him for sure, and he was easily an 8-10 pound rooster. Unfortunatley, Ginger, my absolute most favorite little hen was killed. My flock at that time was: Big Boy, the EE roo, Birch, a birchen looking EE/ hen (HUGE!) 2 game hens, Ginger(idk what she was maybe a game/banty cross, almost like a phoinex) and 3 babies. What was so cool, is that his son ended up looking just like him so he carried on the tradition.

Thanks everybody. I'll need to do some research into all the breeds suggested. Of course, I should never have come here asking - I now want all of them!
