What Breed Should I Get?

You have the scariest of all disasters, Earthquacks, Wildfires, Mudslides, Tsunamis and the Kardashians!
The scariest earthquake I was ever in was in Texas. I didn't know they had earthquakes ever. The building started to shake. I thought there was something wrong with the building and worried it was about to come down. I was thoroughly calmed down when I found out it was just an earthquake! And I lived through the big '89 earthquake.

As far as i know, Texas only had earthquacks below five on the scale. The only disasters that we experienced were Ike and Harvey, two hurricanes and we knew days in advance that they were coming and do our preparations. I don't want to be anywhere near California when »the big one« finally strikes.

We all have our natural disaster we fear the most.

Oh I just realized, you forgot volcanos in California. Though they haven't erupted in a very long time.

Pray that i never buy a house in California!!! - With my luck they will all erupt the moment i signed the contract. Bought the house in Houston in August 2008 and in September Hurricane Ike struck. Damaged the roof and the fences and the insurance ripped us off with »depreciation«.

What a bummer. Insurance companies can be real jerks. We learned real quick which ones were jerks, and which ones were good to their costumers after the camp fire.

There was one poor guy who was burned out in the camp fire. Then he moved to Oroville, renting, and was burned out there. The day he signed a new lease near Redding, they announced an evacuation for the area where the new rental was. He had serious bad luck.

We were entirely new to the country, so we took whatever insurance company was recommended to us by the bank. After the house was damaged by Ike, they first said that we must be in the contract for three months before we can even file a claim. Fortunately that was solved quickly by our banker who called them and told them not to duck with us.
Form all natural disasters i prefer Hurricanes! You have plenty of warning time nowadays and only idiots are being killed by them (imho!). You hear in the news it is a cat3 or higher, just get out of the way.
Wildfires scare me the most! I could never live in an wildfire-hazard area! They are totally unpredictable, move faster than a car can drive (on a curvy road) and you can't protect yourself. You can even survive a tornado in your basement, but a fire would suffocate you there. :sick
That poor guy! Lost everything twice and then had to evacuate! I hope he is fine now!

Here is some ducks to cheer things up. @Aunt Angus we are definitely going to want to see your cuties when you get them. How is the prep work going?

Yay, duckies!!!!! 3 days!!!!!!!!!!

Slowly. I bought a stock tank, but I saw a LARGER one for cheaper on CL. So I'm going to get it this weekend. I have a heating pad, feeder, waterer, pans with racks to catch mess (hopefully), puppy pads, starter, and yeast.

I just need the trough. And I need to rig a lid. I'm thinking hardware cloth and bungee cords. Reeeeaaaalllll fancy....
