I am planing on setting some eggs soon and was woundering what chicken breed would be best, I currently have cross bread chickens that I got from my grandmothers flock, I would like to have a few varieties, I live in southern Illinois and my chickens never lay very well in the winter, I would like a steady flow of eggs all year and something that can handle hot and cold climates, any suggestins would be appreciated

Silver laced Wyandotte, I bought my chicks last may....they are really awesome layers in the cold weather.... I would tell anyone to get these birds!

black astorlops have been known to lay 364 eggs in 365 days It also known to that 8 chickens layed a record of over 1800 in a year.
