What Breed to pick?

well, I am starting to question my luck here....

Yesterday I checked to make sure they still had chicks, and they had 3 tanks with 7 kinds.
That was in the afternoon! This morning the one kind was completely out!
So
here is what I got: 3 Ama(u)ricana, 2 barred Rocks, one Rhode Island Red (the only straight run chick) And one promptly jumped out of my hand and went splat, about a 12 inch drop, give or take. I hope whatever happened will resolve itself. Feed is out (medicated) and the water is in place, Brooderplate on, as is the light.

Wish me luck!

I figured I might as well get the chicks. after I tossed and turned all night, I think now I will toss and turn all day.

And again I forgot to ask how old, but these guys are smaller than my ISAs were.

Just check on them to make sure they're eating and drinking. :D

Chicks are remarkably durable about falls.

Awesome luck on your choices! Americana (Easter Eggers) will likely lay different shades of blue or green, barred rock will lay a light brown, and RIR (if a hen) will lay a medium brown. You (hopefully) will eventually be able to tell who is laying what! My barred rocks are super friendly and a little nosy….my favorite breed so far personality-wise! Good luck with your new flock!

thanks. I just checked on the peep crew. PJ - the jumper - seems fine, head still a little crooked, but she is eating and stretching her little legs! They have found the food, now they can forage for it! Silly peeps. And I saw them drinking.
And one of the barred rocks took a nap, flat out on the stomach! So far so good.
pretty black chicks. the other guys are a varying shade of brown with stripes and freckles...

Oh my I am so sorry! 🙁 What type of waterer are you using?
the one with the little mote around it. the trough is maybe an inch wide?
similar but smaller to the ones they used at the store.
I honestly think though the chick was not quite right, not just after the dive from my hand yesterday although she seemed fine last night, eating and like I said, stretching her legs (similar to a cat - which was funny to watch). she was the smallest of the chicks as well.

Now watch my RIR turn into a roo....

Yeah that’s not usually a waterer to cause problems. I’m so sorry. 😞 In the future you could put some marbles in the water to be extra safe. Haven’t done that but there’s a few members who have. Fingers crossed for a RIR pullet.
