What Breed to pick?

Forgot to also say.. iv been looking at White and chamois polish chickens theyl be 10 weeks old when collect them.. can anyone tell me abit about them.. iv googled them but its not the same as someone actually telling you about them. Thankyou

I'm sure we're terrifying the northerners.

I know that I never dreamed I'd ever say "It's not too horribly hot today, only 90." But I said it within 3 years of moving to central NC.
I moved to northeast Tennessee, and stayed for a dozen years. I moved back during the winter. Had I have moved back in the summer, I think I would have made a u-turn!

I worked in a greenhouse for a couple of years. On concrete/gravel, under plastic, even with the sides open during summer it was HOT in there (these days I'd die there, I am sure) nobody ever went into the cooled breakroom. the shaded spot in front was nice and cool at 90. the AC would make you sick!
I understand that. I went into town the other day, and after getting out of an air-conditioned vehicle, I was worthless for the rest of the day.
I'm trying to stay outside as much as possible, to acclimate myself to the weather, before it gets really hot. The highest temperature so far, this year, has been 96 or 98. We are expecting 100s before the end of June.

You guys are making me laugh. I may be a Yank, but I've lived all over. I still think it's funny out West when they tell you, oh it's 112 or 116 but it's not that bad bc it's more like a hair dryer than a sauna! Lol I agree about the AC, too. The most annoying thing was having to bring a cardigan in my purse everywhere I went bc it would be a bajillion degrees outside, and then you'd go into a shop or something and have to put on a sweater. Like guys, just set the heat to 80. That would be great!
I'm gonna say that's true. The humidity makes it so much worse here. I can handle the higher temp days better, because the humidity is lower, than I can the high humidity at 90.
The closest I ever came to heat stroke, was about 18 years ago. My husband and I took a bike trip to the Carolinas and Tennessee to visit friends. We wore leathers there because it was almost cold in June. On the way home, once we hit Texas, it was exceedingly hot. I got very overheated. I honestly don't know how I made it home. I was sick for a week afterwards.

What traits in particular are you looking for? High egg production? Friendly? Docile? Flighty/predator aware? Will they be confined in a run or free range?
I’m actually wondering about breeds too . I have my egg laying hens - now am looking for friendly and docile pet chickens that won’t suffer to bad. in the Southern states heat and humidity … my birds are in a large run… a coop at night - and free range with me about an hour a day …. Any suggestions ? !!

I have a few! Speckled Sussex, Welsummer, Naked Neck (if you don’t mind the look), Orpingtons, and Plymouth Rock would be my suggestions for heat-tolerant and friendly breeds! They all have single combs which is easier for staying cool in the hotter climates, and are known for being sweet & friendly!

It's supposed to be 100 here in central Texas for the next few days, I love it : )
