What breed? Too early to know?

they wouldn't eat the oyster shell, and it doesn't need to be offered until they're ready to lay. They don't need the calcium.
Yes, but she shares her coop with another hen that may. I have two silkie hens, a rooster, their chick, and these two "adopted" chicks. I offer a variety of feeders and waterers and they all seem to know what the like/need. Thanks for checking on that for me tho. Most of what I do now is from research on here and google.

Ah, ok. I see. I thought they were alone at this point.

Makes sense, and since she was standing next to the oyster shell, I'm sure you thought this girl doesn't know what she's doing and needs help. And you'd be right on both counts! That part I got from someone else on here when I was trying to figure out how I feed different parts of the flock different things when they all lived together. Was told just put it out there and they know what to eat. I inherited the rooster, hens , coop and food last may and was feeding the rooster layer feed till a week ago cause that's what came with the coop, didnt even know about flock feed and oyster shells as a better solution since the Roo doesn't need it. Both hens have been laying eggs pretty steadily since I got them. But now since the chick was born nobody's laying anyway. Just hoping my buff silky will go broody again and make her own little chicks:jumpy:jumpyhatchings and babies are awesome!
