What Breed?

I bought what was supposed to be six Rhode Island Reds and six Brown leghorns but the ones that are supposed to be leghorns don't look like any other pictures of leghorns.

The lighter red definitely look like pullet production reds/hatchery RIRs.

And, unfortunately, the darker red are all cockerels- probably production red as well- not leghorns. Their earlobes are red- so they're some kind of brown egg layer red 'type'.

Bummer- hopefully whoever you purchased them from have a realistic return policy!
 
One question and one comment...

Do you have photos of the darker red ones as chicks? Did they look like little chipmunks? Red? Yellowish? That could give us clues too...

After looking at them again- could they be Red Rangers? The meat variety? If so they'll be ready to go at about 12 weeks. Apparently they're pretty tasty and have a much more 'chickeny' taste than the Cornish Cross we're all used to eating.
