Is my cockerel a cucko marans or a mystic marans? It was sold as a Mystic Marans at the store but It looks nothing like the ones I've seen online. Someone told me it was a cucko marans but those don't have feathered feet. I'm not quite sure what he is but I'd like to know so I can do more research into his temperament.

I know mystic marans are sex-linked and only the males have barring. I would expect some copper color to be showing up too, but maybe his dad was a black marans rather than a black copper marans. French cuckoo marans with feathered legs also exist. If that's what he is, he'll be lighter than a female cuckoo.

So if he starts showing any copper or is darker in color as he feathers out, I would guess mystic. And if he stays all black and white and is lighter I would guess cuckoo.

Mystic Marans are variable because they're hybrids. I think he could easily be one. He has the head spot that indicates the barring gene even if it isn't showing up too well on his feathers yet.

The only other thing I can think of is some type of olive egger.

Leg color is wrong for a Cochin, and its comb is wrong for a Brahma.
