What breeds are best for children to show in 4-H

Well, i have experience with 4-H, so i would suggest a bantam breed, like english game (they come in tons of colours, most of which are in the APA) or the d'uccles. Just check the APA first. I would NOT suggest wyandottes or any bird with finicky colouring (unless the parents are top show quality) As for standards, i would say brahmas because they're so sweet and cuddly and if your not scared of the size, americaunas (sorry if i spelled it wrong) and you can enter the eggs in the egg category. You can also get some already laying hens with some cocks and (if you have these) you can enter the momma and chicks in the "live" category and win tons of prizes!

For 4-H last year I used a male call duck for showmanship. I am young and just an intermediate in 4-H so the call duck was super easy to control. I could hold him in one hand and pull out his wings with the other. He drooped his head for a while but then picked it up. If you know how to hold a duck then this will be simple. I hope this helps you guys!
