Need your assistance. We got 12 chicks in April. 2 ended up being Roosters.... and out of the remaining 10, I am trying to determine which breeds they are. The feed store I got them from hasn't been much help.

What is she in pic #1?

What is the front Hen in pic #2?

And finally, what is she in Pic #3?

Thanks all!!:)

Hi, hope you are enjoying BYC so far. :frow

X 2, noting that brown leghorn looks the same as the Welsummer but would have white earlobes. And also, I'm not super experienced at telling the reds apart. So I would say RIR, New Hampshire or production red depending on which hatchery.

Reason the feed store can't help you... THEY DON'T KNOW! Any advice you get at the feed store, please ALWAYS get a second opinion. While many employees are well meaning most simply don't have animals of their own and little to no experience either. Owners are SOMETIMES more knowledgeable. You can often find out which hatchery they ordered from and look what birds they have available that match the description of yours.

Hope you have a plan B for them boys. Beautiful ladies, I love having a variety of breeds. :love

#2 looked like an Easter egger that I have named Brownie, the chicken house monitor. The others I agree with.

Thanks!!
IIRC, I got RIRs and New Hampshire somethings.... And that would round out the dozen for me. I also have two Turkins, one red and one black, as well as a remaining Barred rock Hen, who is SUPER sweet!!

Plan B for the boys is as follows:
Rocky, the Barred Rock left this earth on Monday, as he was EXTREMELY aggressive towards my wife. He will be dinner soon.
Caitlin, the Easter Egger Roo is doing fine and will be the protector. In fact, he put himself between Rocky and my wife when the last attack took place. He's a good guy!!

Thanks for confirming my thoughts on 1 and 3!! AS for #2, I don't recall getting that breed when we got the chicks, but I'm cool with it. Gonna get chicks from a more cooperative source next time.[/QUOTE
