My dad ordered a mix of eggs a few months ago and only 4 hatched and he has no idea what they even are. There's only two types. Any suggestions. I'm thinking that this all black one is a Black Australorp, but not positive (we have 3 of them). The second one, I'm not sure at all.

This one has some blackish/grey stripes with a redish tint on it's front and head. And it's almost twice the size of the black ones hatched at the same time. (Though it looks smaller in the picture, it's much bigger when compared to them outside).

Thank you. The only thing is, we have almost full grown Plymouth rocks but none of them have or had that reddish color. Or is that why it's a "barred" rock and not just plymouth? We did figure a rooster though, because of the already present comb. And for the black one, I guess we won't know for sure till it's older, but it sure looks similar to the few (very few) pictures I've seen of young Black Australorps.

Not a barred rock, the rose comb means a dominique, and looks like a rooster, it shouldn't have that brown tint to him so I'm thinking it's mixed and the black one looks like an australorp and a pullet.

Thank you! It doesn't look like any of the young dominiques so maybe you're right about a mix.

Your barred bird is a mix, he had one barred parent and on non-barred parent. That's why he's darker than a pure barred rock roo, and he has that reddish leakage. That red color usually increases as they age. I have one that may have been crossed with a gold laced Wyandotte--he's black and white barred but has three perfect gold laced feathers on his neck!
