I am on the Atlantic coast, south and east of Orlando, South of Daytona, South of Kennedy Space Center.

Are there breeds that will do better/worse here in Florida over others?

We have a sicilian buttercup among others. She's a very sweet, small girl and the breed is supposed to do well in the heat.

I think they all do good. Heavy breeds might not be good with the heat.
I have BR,RIR, ameracuanas, welsummers& mutts. They all do pretty good!

I have a large mixed bouquet of many different chicken breeds and they all seem to do well here in our heat. Of course they all lay around in the shade & pant during the fiercest parts of the day, but get right back up & bop around later in the afternoon. As long as they have ample water and nice shady spots for lounging your birds should be just fine.

But one thing you should keep in mind where you live is H-word protection. Build your coops strong, wind/rain/flood resistant right from the start, and have an H-word emergency plan for your flock as well as for yourselves.

You know what I'm talking about, right? I don't even want to say the word out loud!
