what breeds to cross for meat?

My father used to raise Hamp-Rocks back in the 50s for meat. This is a new Hampshire Red x Plymouth rock. As I understand it, the more refined breed, the Delaware, is often used as a meat bird. I am considering this myself. The breasts will not be huge like a Cornish x, but you have the benefit of the hens being good layers and the cockerels being good meat.
