I've had my chickens killed twice by the same three dogs , in may my first 6, and now again my second flock of six, and they just started to lay! also my daughters pet muscovy duckling 7 weeks old .
The dogs have broken into the coop both times , this time i called the sheriff .
i had the dogs trapped in the run ,& He came and took the dogs ,said if the owners were'nt home the would go to the pound ,also they would be cited .
The sheriff dropped the dogs off in thier kennel at the owners other house which had burned a few days before the dogs struck the first time .
I chose not to pursue it the first time due to them losing thier home.
Is there anything else i can do ?
i never had this prob with dogs beforeand these dogs have been a nuisance in town and have been picked up before .
Thank You for your help

A previous post with a dog problem suggested (if you can trap the dogs and cage them to move them), to take them to a shelter in another county. If you do this, tell them that you found the dogs wandering loose on the road.

There are only a few things you can do.

Make your run stronger and virtually dog proof. This is hard to do, especially when the dogs are determined, I've had dogs go through chainlink dog kennels. Electric fencing is on of the BEST deterents out there and one of the cheaper too.

You can review the laws in your area, you may be within your legal right to dispatch these animals.

You can pursue compensation for your losses. When you hit people in their pocket book they really seem to respond. Money talks.

Electric wire is good but asking for compensation at $20-25. per is better...was the only thing that worked in my case with killing dogs....and the local city court where they were fined also.

Take photos whenever possible also.
