What can I put in the bottom of duck coop?

Depends on:
what your coop is like,
how many ducks you have,
if you feed/water inside your coop or not,
how long your ducks are in the coop,
your area/weather

I have a small coop inside a 10x10 dog run. My ducks ONLY sleep inside the actual coop. There's just pine shavings in there. Then the 10x10 dog run is there so they can be contained and safe if I'm unable to watch them or the weather is way too bad (aka raging river I don't want them to get into). There's straw on the ground of the dog run. They are messy no matter what you use. Mine do NOT have food/water inside the coop. They only have food/water in the run if necessary. Normally they are in yet another pen or free ranged during the day - depending on my schedule and the weather.

i have 5 ducks (one pen for the boys and one for the girls), their pens are not outside/no worry about the weather, they only stay in their pens at night, and i put food/water in it

i use a mix of half wood shavings and half hemp bedding and it stays pretty clean, i also put puppy pads under the food/water to keep that mess in one spot

edit: i also sprinkle nesting herbs on top of all the bedding and that keeps it so there is zero poop smell

We have three ducks in a small coop used only at nighttime with no food or water. We’ve had great luck with corncob bedding—it absorbs moisture really well. I scoop it like cat litter daily and change it out every three to four weeks.

Our coop is in our basement, so keeping it from being stinky is really important to us. The biggest thing is to keep it dry. We sweep out the pine shavings & poop once a week (and take them to the compost for the garden! Winning!) and do a more thorough cleaning every 2-3 weeks. Put down fresh pine shavings, and it's worked out well so far.
