What can i use for fly control?

My feed store sells something similar to the big stinky fly trap, but it has a big plastic bag on the bottom. They work great! I found out the hard way that the attractant in them will call every fly within a mile, so it's best to put one of those traps about 500 feet from your house, coop or patio! They last a long time and you just put it in the trash when it's full.

Oh, and I've tried the 'water in baggies' trick. Didn't work at all for us. Sitting on the deck, surrounded by hanging water bags that ALL had flies walking around on them was kinda funny, but a waste of baggies.

The water in the bags works. I've sworn by it. 16 years in the restaurant business taught me what works and most commercial kitchens have little baggies of water hanging from the ceiling or in doorways. Don't know exactly why it works but it DOES work. I was told the flies see thousands of reflections of themselves and somehow this repels them. No idea. Anyway, you mostly fill a clear plastic bag (I use quart bags and double them up just in case), or a clear plastic bottle (with smooth sides, no ripples or designs) and hang from all entryways. Works in the house, barn and garden. Good luck!

we tried the plastic bags last year, and if it worked then I would hate to see what it was like if we didn't have them. but maybe I will try them again this year, but use plastic bottles instead. I had an issue with bag seal failure

I think we are going to order some DE within the next two weeks, and we are definitely going to lay some of that down in the coop. not only for flies but mites too...just in case

DUCKS!!!!! We've already outdone our quota of animals! LOL! But I'll take that into consideration... I'll keep you posted on the interesting methods I am now engaged in...Already put out Lime, and next the Diatomaceous Earth... the bag idea is a bit odd... but a conversation piece and will keep people wondering just how many rocks are really in my head... They are going up next week....
thanks for the smile!

Those bags were your opportunity to be considered eccentric, When things like that occur you just have to remember not to laugh... then you're just silly! LOL

I'm getting a Big stinky, or my feed store version ...and thanks for the suggestion to hang it far from us. I would have had it in the middle of the barn keeping the neighbors happy and me inundated...

What about horse flies? Is the attractant sexy to horse flies too?? Baby Baby....
Have just been reading about pheromones and how we are the only species just about that doesn't act on pheromone scent... What are we missing....?? ??
