For the last couple of years my *dear* neighbor, who is an animal lover, has been taking care of the "girls" when I've been away. He does a WONDERFUL job, and I really trust him. My problem is, he keeps buying them corn, and feeding it to them. I said something to him the second year, but he has continued to do it. He said he likes to watch them eat it. It takes several weeks to get them back to their regular laying schedule. What can I do, or should I just be thankful I've got a wonderful neighbor and friend to take of them?

Thanks!

What's wrong with telling him the truth?

Mr. Neighbor, I NEED YOUR HELP (who the heck would refuse to help a neighbor out?). My chicks aren't laying as regularly as I'd like. I read somewhere that it might be diet related, so I'd like to try a little experiment. This is where you can help. I'd like for you to use this stuff here to treat them (give him a bag of stuff) instead of the corn. I'm not sure if it'll work, but I figure..."What the heck? Let's try."

Here's an idea....keep a bag of corn, left unshelled and on the cob, close by the coop. When he feeds your regular feed, he can toss an ear of that corn down and watch the birds have fun with it. Unless he is feeding a LOT of corn, it shouldn't be affecting your egg production at all.

I like watching what my girls do with corn and BOSS also...but any addition of these types of supplements that are overfed will detract from your core nutrition and may affect laying ability. Just a little now and again shouldn't hurt a bit.

If you read my OP, you'll see where I said I told him about the corn. Maybe I'll do as some suggested, give him a bag with some scratch with BOSS in it. Meanwhile, I have a 50 bag of loose corn that he doesn't want back. I guess I'll give them a LITTLE bit occasionally
