I also vote larger animal. The coyotes around here take off with the hens and eat them elsewhere, the raccoons kill on site. Very sorry for your loss.

My rooster disappeared last week. No trace at all, but my dog was able to track to a site about 150 yards into the woods, where we found the rooster buried under a pile of pine needles, missing his head. Trail cam that night showed a fox AND a coyote visiting the site. So I still don't know which took him, but I have had a fox visiting nearly every night since. Girls are all locked up since....
