Hey, I have been keeping chickens for years but have only just decided to try hatching some out! I was given 6 small, blue coloured eggs and was wondering what kind of birds lay these coloured eggs?
thanks

Blue eggs are usually from easter eggers or ameraucanas....True ameraucanas are more difficult to locate and often are actually easter eggers mislabeled. Cream legbars also lay blue eggs but are somewhat rare. ERr's (Easter eggers) are sort of a mutt breed.....but one of the sweetest chickens there are. They come in a variety of colors and some have facial muff/beards others do not.

Wow, thanks - I tried to google it but google can come up with LOTS of stuff!

They sound interesting - I can't wait for them to hatch!

Here's a picture of one I had a couple years ago.

I know, not the greatest picture, but the EEs are typically colored something like that or the Silver/Blk version. They have pea combs and no wattles, so that makes them great for cold winters. Most will have muffs, they are SO pretty when they have a full fluffy face :)

Oh, by the way, I LOVE your Blue Laced Red Wyandotte in your profile pic, she's gorgeous.
