My three absolute favorite breeds are my Lavender Orpingtons (great layers and are so sweet and beautiful), my Japanese Bantams (so teeny, rare, sweet), and my silkies!Hi! I’m thinking about getting some more chickens. I might want polish, sultans, or silkies. Which one should I get? Any other breed ideas?
Forgot to mention this too, but I got some Splash Andalusians, Splash Marans, and Splash Orpingtons and they are so sweet!! Like literally the sweetest chicks I have ever had. I love them so much!!My three absolute favorite breeds are my Lavender Orpingtons (great layers and are so sweet and beautiful), my Japanese Bantams (so teeny, rare, sweet), and my silkies!
Such pretty girls! I have not ventured into Wyandottes despite how beautiful they are because I hear they often bully Orpingtons. & my Orpingtons are my babies.I have found that Wyandottes are very good setters with clutches of eggs. I had one that stayed in a nesting box with a clutch of eggs for days and hatched a chick. We have roosters and our brooding pen and coop wasn’t ready yet so sadly the other chickens killed the chick but I know that Wyandottes are successful mothers. And Wyandottes are a chunky dual purpose bird weighing in around 7 lbs for the hen. They also have rose combs and are very weather hardy so if you want, look into those. I hope this helps.
Here is a photo of one of my Golden Laced Wyandotte.

I have a batch of chicks I purchased to put under a broody buff orp. Her 1st time and she started brooding in early Feb & we still had some freezing temps after that. I didn't think she'd stick with it, but she did! & she's the nicest broody I've ever been around, so I figured it was only fair to reward her.Forgot to mention this too, but I got some Splash Andalusians, Splash Marans, and Splash Orpingtons and they are so sweet!!
