What Chickens are the best for newbies, and where in Nashville can I buy them?

So excited!!! And thank you all! I got thirty Buff Orp chicks day before last and they are so cute! They are already six weeks, and in Gods great providence, I got them for 75 Cents each. Twenty for thirty! It was so amazing. Bless the Lord!

The only problem I had with this was that they always sold them at full price. I much preferred to get them off craigslist because they are always very cheap.

I just got chicks for the first time a couple of weeks ago and I got an assortment of buff orpingtons, Jersey Giants, and black australorps. By far my orpingtons are my friendliest chickens I've got. I've heard australorps and buff orpingtons lay alright. The man at the co-op, where I got mine (generally at this time of year the TN co-ops get chickens every couple of weeks) told me leghorns lay really well? I don't know or you could look online for poultry meet ups. Your best bet would be outside of Nashville. The only hatchery I know TN has is Poultry Hollow but that is in middle TN. I did get ducks from there a few years back and they turned out to be very nice ducks.

Hi
I live in NJ. I had white leghorns for a year and a half. They were great layers. Large white eggs everyday! Sadly, I eventually lost them due to preditors. A raccoon, I think, pulled the chicken wire off the board it was stapled to and got into my run! So... Starting over with new chicKs. Different kinds. Will reinforce the wire around their run. My old girls were fun and friendly. I hope these new girls are the same. Good luck!
