right now I have 8 chickens and four are getting old. I plan to get six more once they pass. But i want a few different types of chickens. Could anyone help me please.

Welcome to BYC!

It depends on how they are raised more then breed. Lots of docile breeds like Orpingtons, Wyandottes, Plymouth Rocks, ect all mix well with other chickens if introduced properly.

Best of luck!

Welcome to BYC! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

If chickens are raised together, they should all get along just fine. However, if you keep for example, rhode island reds and add some silkies, there will be gruesome fighting.

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. Most breeds mix pretty well together as long as they are not overcrowded. However, some of the dual purpose breeds that have a well deserved reputation for being calm and gentle such as Australorps, Orpingtons, Cochins, Brahmas, Sussex, and Faverolles typically do really well together. Of course the pecking order exists within any breeds. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Cheers.

Ok. This helps a lot. I know I want silkies and naked necks. I've only had three different breeds so far, and I want to see which breeds I like best.

Just be aware if you get Silkies, which are bantams, you may have to keep them in their own separate enclosure from your standard sized breeds or they will likely take a beating from the larger birds. We ended up having to do that with our Silkies.

Yeah, our silkies are low on the pecking order. They do okay with our standard breeds, but they sort of have their own mini flock, which they hang out in away from the standard rooster. Thankfully, our only silkie hen we have right now is the mother of a lot of the birds, so they all like her.
