Hi, all, always some discussion about what chickens will eat, what they won't eat, what they won't destroy in a lawn or garden. This spring I had petunias come up volunteer - that has never happened before and I did not know they came up volunteer, I had spread some compost around a tree so I'm assuming seed or roots came up? Anyway, I let them be and they grew big and gorgeous but I just knew the chickens would destroy them. Nope, they have left them completely alone and here's the picture to prove it. Weird.
P.S. my lawn, or what's left of it, has such a high nitrogen level I've been by horticulturists told NOTHING would grow on it. Double Weird. I'm in Western Colorado, winters are generally pretty hard, too

They're beautiful and it's pretty impressive that the chickens are leaving them alone. My meat chickens completely devoured a beautiful pot of petunias this spring. There was only dirt left! My husband put the pot on the ground to do something and forgot it. LOL

Maybe yours are a special chicken resistant kind and you could make a fortune selling them to all of us!

My "toonies" (as my little granddaughter calls them) must smell differently than yours. If they so much as look like they might get brave and put out a bud, the chickens are right there to put a screeching halt to THAT plan. <sigh. That's a lovely photo. I'd show you one of my chickens in the toonies but all you'd see are fluffy butts and a plant holding up a "truce" flag.

Funny post! Something else they won't eat or mess with is lamb's ear - however, purple sage, forget about it, they go for that within seconds of planting!
