I just finished growing out a bunch of quail chicks. I currently have five 7-week old EEs running around among the older flock. I have about 40 meat and layer chicks between 2 and 3-weeks old. And then one of my chickens went broody and they are due any day. I told myself I wouldn't order the other duckling breeds I've been wanting until Spring. And then my SIL said my niece's school was hatching ducks eggs and asked if I would like to take some. For free. What breed? One of the ones I've been wanting of course. What choice did I have? Really? I need help. I think I may have an addiction problem.

Awwwwww. I am sooo the same way. Parents are separating and I am trying to condense pens. So what do I do? After I have finally gone from 6 pens down to 2 pens, I just bought 37 chicks. :barnie

I thought that's what they were!! I having been thinking of getting one of those myself! I have 3 ducks, 2 White Pekins and 1 Blue Swedish. It was supposed to be 1 male and 2 female. Unfortunately it turned out to be 2 males and 1 female. Trying to rehome the White Pekin male, and keep the Blue Swedish male. I like a variety in colors.

Lol! I just told myself that I was closing ranks after the chickens on the waiting list are here. (I don't accept animals here unless I feel I have enough swing & permanent space for them. With the current projects, space is a bit tight until next week.)

And what did I do??? I was with a neighbor running an errand and she mentioned having too many roosters. I asked what the plan was for the roosters and was told they might sold at auction. (I've heard this before from others.) I asked if the roosters would really sell...and was told no, not likely. Then my neighbor said the roosters could be given away, if only someone would take them. :D

I think we left the duck tape at home....cuz the next thing I know, I am saying the roosters could come to my place to live in a few weeks....:ducand I didn't even ask how many or what breed or age. Does it matter? No.:th

The only good thing about it is that it may take me to my own "max" number of chickens I am willing to winter over. Oh wait - I passed that number a whiles ago. It must be the max summer number I was thinking about. I dunno. Yeah, this chicken math is really throwing me.... o_O

And if someone asked me to take in duckies, I am sure I would say yes. I know I haven' reached capacity on ducks yet. Not even close!

:celebrateI'm getting more chickens!!! I love the, as Meagan would say, the "ambience" of having the chickens around.

:lau Oh yeah, you've got to be careful. Luckily for me space for the adults isn't a problem. The problem is figuring out how to brood everyone. Hopefully the youngest chicks and these ducklings will get along together. If worse comes to worse I'll just need to get another heat pad.

Lol! I repurposed a kitchen cabinet. Took the drawers out, put handles on the side, and a piece of wood to block the doors from opening. (Removed the countertop.) Put babies in there for a bit. The baby space is a bit tight. Somehow (again, this chicken math fuddles my mind) I went from zero babies (everyone outside!) to 43 babies.

With the bigger guys, they go need a swing space outside to get use to everyone (after quarantine) and then have their own room in the Roo Barn. The two biggest quarantine spaces I have are currently in use. At least until next week. Then they free up!!! :)

End game space is definitely not a problem. :) And my duckies have a nice big house all to themselves...10x8...they need some company.... :D
