What color are my mixed chicks?

To be sure of the father:
single comb mother (Australorp, Jersey Giant) and single comb father (Jersey Giant) MUST produce single comb chicks.

single comb mother and pea comb father (Buckeye) should produce pea comb chicks, although the combs will likely be larger and less-tidy than the comb of a pure Buckeye.

Chick colors:
Black chick should grow up black.

First striped chick will probably have some pattern of brown and black as it grows up, or possibly white and black. (If white and black, then it's a cockerel. Brown and black could be either gender.) I cannot tell what pattern will be in the feathers, just that black and another color should be present in some arrangement.

Second striped chick that you say is lighter--same as the first striped chick, except that the "black" may be replaced with "blue." (Not guaranteed to have blue, but maybe.)

Agreed.

@sadness child Where did you get your Jersey Giant? I assume the eggs were brown, so what other brown egg layers do you have?

(My guesses about color should still be right for the striped chicks, no matter who the mother is. And I'm pretty sure the former Jersey Giant male is not the father of those striped chicks.)

I have determined that the Black chick has a pea comb, I have yet to look at the other chicks, I will post a pic tomorrow hopefully.

All of my chickens are brown egg layer, but the only other ones were GLW eggs and my Jersey Giant's eggs are big compared to my other chickens, and the are more rounded at the top instead of having a point, but I did get her from my local TSC so I did not expect the best lines, and I don't really care, I just keep them for being them

Then you know for sure the black chick has the Buckeye father.

And I think the Buckeye must be the father of the striped ones, or they would not be striped.

If you're sure of which hen is the mother, then the chick color only makes sense if she's not really a Jersey Giant. Even a hatchery-quality Jersey Giant (which is what you'd find at TSC) should produce black chicks, not stripey ones. (The genetics of black vs. anything else are simple enough that hatcheries reliably get this right.)

But TSC does have a record of mis-labeling chicks, and some kinds of chickens do look quite a bit alike.

The chick color would make sense if you hen is some kind of sexlink, similar to a Black Sexlink but in blue. Such a hen could look a lot like a Jersey Giant, but could produce not-black chicks, (which has clearly happened).

Note, when I'm saying "black" chicks in the previous few paragraphs, I really mean "black or blue" (but not red, yellow, or striped.)

Is the biological mother the same hen that hatched the eggs, in the picture there?

Ok, I understand. The mother who hatched the eggs is not the mother, she is a bantam and her eggs were never fertile

Here is the Blue Jersey Giant pullet.

Nice looking chickens!

I have confirmed that all of the chicks have pea combs

So the Buckeye is the father of all the chicks.
The Australorp is the mother of the black chick.
And the blue chicken is the mother of the striped chicks, but she is probably not a Jersey Giant.

I'll be looking for pictures of the chicks once they grow some feathers--I'm quite curious what kinds of patterns they actually show!

Thank You, I plan on posting pictures of the chicks every week or so.
