My first batch of guineas is out in the pasture. I knew I was suppose to wait but we were backed up on space because we haven't dressed out the meat chickens yet (this weekend, finally!). They don't like it near the house. Perhaps it has something to do with my guinea wrangling skills? (See my last post). Actually, they really like the neighbor's pasture. So glad I could raise him some guineas.

So, here is batch number two for us and this time we will keep them in the coop until they are 12 weeks old and then let them out only one at time for awhile. Hopefully, they will hang out near the house to do their bug eating job and sleep in the coop.

I bought them locally from a guy that has been raising them since he was a kid in 4-H.

What colors do you think we have?

it looks like there is 4 lavender ( bluish colored ones) , 2 pearl pied ( the darker ones with the most white), and 2 pearls ( the other 2)

hope that helps.

Hi!
The keets that are brown with black stripes and a tan underside and has a broad black strip down its face is a Pearl. And you have 2 of those.

The Keets that have a white chest and is white up until their wings are going to be Royal Purples. And you also have 2 of them.

And the 4 that are much light than the others it is a possibility between Lavender and Porcelain but 50/50 chance i am guessing. The Pearls and Royal Purples are for sure their colors. I have both of those colors in my newest batch of keets

Good luck with the keets!

I also forgot to say,
For the Lavenders or Porcelains you will not know for sure until they go thru their first molt . Then you will tell the first molt is usually around 2-4 months of age.

Thanks guys!!

I like the variety of colors in this group. Mostly because when they're older and one is doing something that my husband doesn't like, we'll be able to narrow down the culprit more easily.

Hubby is afraid they will get into our pool (there is a fence around it). I tried to tell him that they are terrestrial birds, rather than ducks.......gee, I hope I'm right.

haha i woudn't think they would go into the pool. Our set up had our ducks (4) in a dog run with a pool for about 3 weeks. And i was free ranging my chickens that day and gave them lettuce and then gave ALOT to the ducks in their pool cause there my little pigs under feather lol. When i came back outside later found out one of my 7 week old chicks in the duck pool.
