What color are these?? Mille Fluer Cochins????

Yes, I have more. They are laying maybe two eggs a day right now. They are F2, which means about only half of them will be potentially mille fleur. Some of those will be buff on the bottom, dark on top, or "columbian" looking like one of yours already is. Some will have good mille fleur color on the right color background and some will have heavy partridge barring on their feathers along with the mille fleur colors. The rest will look like mottled cochins but they will produce the above colors (fiftyfifty, same odds as you would get out of any eggs I send) if you cross them back on a mille fleur cochin.
Congratulations though. Nice score on the MF cochins you already have! I believe I sent those eggs as freebies, LOL. I was trying to get more people interested in mille fleur cochins. I REALLY REALLY REALLY love mine and I hope some day they become a recognized color. Even if you don't show, please do pay it forward and spread the love... give a few eggs to other breeders as extras when yours start to lay. The more people working on the variety, the better chance for a strong and diverse gene base and a strong show base once they get recognized.

If I were you and wanted to breed those and didn't have a pair, I would go with mottled instead of splash. Mottled will give you the least generations to get back to mille fleur color pattern by crossing back. F1 will be all mottled, F2 will get you what you have right now.

Awe, Patty... You're awesome. I'm feeling the same vibe. I Have a few good breeders on here in my thoughts that are already into breeding great cochins... thinking of paying it forward.

I know you are hoping these are mille fleur cochins but, like everyone said in the other thread, they are crosses. Unless, the guy who sold you these is purposely breeding for mille fleur cochin by combining buff columbian (which are extremely rare ...almost as rare as mille fleur) with mottled cochins, or have mille fleur cochins, it just isn't so. He could have bred mille fleur d'uccle with cochins just letting them run together around the yard and you may get mille fleur looking cochin type birds but they will still be muts as it would take years upon years of selective breeding to breed out the d'uccle.

There are only a handful of breeders in this country right now with these birds so I find it highly unlikely that you would just accidentally wind up with them....unless of course you were in contact with Patty and her MF gifting habits!!

Add that to the obvious issues concerning incorrect beak and leg color and you are even further from highly unlikely.

im still holding on to the dream i guess i thought maybe new thread new thoughts and i no but its a dream i wanted to hold onto b/c i want the real deal and no muts but they are so cute!!

Just FYI, there are several breeders outside of BYC that are working on MF bantam cochins. There are also more people than most realize that have buff columbian cochins. I found all this out when I started working on my cochin project.

I realize that, Dustin. Thanks

Just saying that the average joe that has "a bunch of chickens" probably isn't breeding mille fleur.

i agree
ya i was being unreasonable and trying to make people say wat i wanted to hear MF cochins are hard to find and there are some dedicated breeders out there but like none in indiana

Greencastle, there is a thread on here ...MF enthusiasts" on the breeds and genetics forum. A bunch of us on here are working on them and, if you are heart set, try going through the members on that thread and see if you can find someone local to you or that would sell you eggs.

In the meantime, keep us posted with pics as the chicks grow. I've heard a few folks say there are many roads on the path to mille fleur and I guess it is possible, the breeder could've stumbled onto something... like buffxmottledx a little wheaten.

These would be mutss too.. just mutts with the right genetic background to get you somewhere...heck, the ones I have are mutts and they will be until they are a recognized variety and they breed true... which mine do not at this point.
