Well, they are both Ash-red, which is the most dominant of the three base colors (Ash-red, Blue, Brown). The grizzle is homozygous so that means he has two copies of the gene. Grizzle is a dominant gene. Then the pied bird, we still don't know everything about all the "white genes", piebald included. Piebald is supposed to be dominant, I believe. But you can get pieds with various amounts of white. Some are almost all white, others only have a few sprigs here and there.
