What color is a chicken bruise??

It's been snowy but not freezing and there water is up off the ground. Whole coop is bedded with thick dry hay...I hope it's not frost bite /: her toe nails on the other foot were coming off wen the underneath nail wasn't fully grown so one is bleeding when I went to Epsom salt soak it is when I noticed the green toe on the other foot. It doesn't even seem to bother her.

What do their perches look like?

There about an inch and a half thick and square but rounded corneres. They all decided it was Cosier in a higher up corner that's basicly on a ledge and they kept falling so I put a flat board in the corner and they all huddle on it when it's really cold. This was months ago thoo so it couldn't have been from her falling off the ledge then I don't think

Roseyred, I agree that she will probably lose the middle toe, but if the injuries are just from the goats stepping on her feet, then she may recover well. With the green bruising, it most likely is an injury. Frostbite looks exactly like a crush injury, but there wouldn't be bruising. Here is a good picture of frostbite where the toes will eventually fall off:

Her toe next to it is green now too....I dont remember it being green.... She's been inside in the warmth on hay for the past 3 days. What the heck. And thank you eggcessive I hope it's just an injury that's healing

this is what it looked like a week ago when she first started holding it up and limping. It's the middle toe on the foot in the right of the photo.

I think your fighting a losing battle
it would be kinder to the injured rooster to cull him
you do not need that many roosters

it will no doubt get infection and due to poor cirulation may lose the use of the leg and foot
so in the end culling the hurt rooster is the best in all cases

any questions email me

I'd have to agree. Clearly something internal is amiss. Unless you've time to deal with him. It's not likely he'll be any good for breeding.

As for the break?

I had a Columbian Rock roo with a hurt leg and I believe it was caused by jumping from the roost which was too high. These birds are big and heavy. Landing on a hard surface can be bad. I hated to but he was culled. So my point is?

One the owner should have told you about it being hurt, two be careful how high your roosts are for the size birds you have and three make sure they have distance to get down and a soft landing.

Okay that's more than one point.

I wish you well,

Rancher

The toe dosnt look better or worse but her poo is yellow water. I haven't let her drink the Epsom salt water or anything like that. Could it just be the stress of being inside? She's eating and drinking normally.
