What color is he?

Here's my runner drake, Smudge:

Since this picture he has gotten his drake feathers and now has a dark almost steal gray color head and a brownish/gray body.
Is he blue, blue fawn or mixed?

I want to get him some girls and I was trying to decide between blue and blue fawn.

He's blue, which is extended black based. Blue fawn is wild mallard color pattern with double blue dilution. You don't want to breed him to blue fawn.

ducklover15 - Smudge is gorgeous! Do you have a more recent picture of him, showing his brownish/grey body and darker head? That sounds very striking.

I just ordered a blue drake, and looks like the pictures I have been able to pull up on the internet of blue drakes. He is very handsome!!! I think mine should be here some time in the next couple of week.

Thank you! That makes me feel good. I'm glad someone finds it useful. Really, I have raised ducks for a lot of years, but didn't really get heavily involved in learning the genetics involved until this year. Previously, I only had a basic understanding. Since I went back to college though, I have began to understand much more simply due to taking several Biology courses. It has helped in my classes too, having something outside of class to make me personally interested in what I am learning. I still have a lot to learn though.

This is the best picture I have of him right now. I'll try to get a better one tomorrow after his bath. He is very handsome when he's clean!
