WHAT COLOR IS MY NEW PEACOCK???????....NEED HELP..... (info)

i got a new peacock. i don't know what color he is or nothing. i don't know what they eat? how to house them? how to tame them? how to let them out and free range without him running off? what kind of treats he likes? if he will come back to the coop at night or roost up in the trees? i dont know nothing.... I NEED HELP!!!!!

How old is he? Can you post pics? They eat game bird starter as babies.

Dry cat food, Bread, Cracked corn, Veggies, Fruit
I feed my new ones twice a day so they get use to me quicker.
I would keep him penned up for a couple of months if he is a older bird. Til he calms down and learns to truth you and is comfortable around you. Plus I would get him a girl or two so he has a reason to stay.

ok i will try to post pics. well my aunt came home from a vacation and called and said there was a peacock on her porch pooping

.... and so her knowing i have a bunch of other birds said do you want him. well knowing me i said yes. i dont know how old he is.... he doesnt have a tail but i think they loose them then grow them back dont they??? anyway he has a green/blue head, brownish/tan back and tail, lite chocolate wings, and black and white speckled chest and belly....

also if i put a guinea cock in with him will they be fine....

Yea they loose their train ever year. Mine are starting to loose theirs now.
If you do pen them together just watch them for a bit. If there is no one bullying it should be fine.

OH WOW!!! What an interesting surprise!

We have a pair of year old India Blues.
SOOO I would say, you DEFIANTLY need to find him a mate!

He will look for one until he has one!!!!

Keep him cooped up for a few months ALSO. Because he will fly and try to find his "place"...not knowing where that is.

Once he feels comfortable and happy THERE, you can let him free range. (but again.....not too soon....give him a lot of time to adjust)

Sound like you have a peahen or yearling peacock.
Yes keep it penned for months, thats how your Aunt got it someone didnt.

At that age the hard part is over,
Check the top right pic. that a blue hen. Lot of info on here also.

He will have a short train nexy year and will breed, but 2011 before he get the long train(tail)

Get some peahens for him. Yearling peahen then you can raise some peachicks next year
