What color is my quail

Hello I was wondering what color my quail is? The quail's name is Douglas. I'm not sure if it's male or female either.

Color?? Your quail looks very young in this picture. How old is it? A front picture may help identify the sex.

Something in the yellow/gold complex, maybe with another dilute gene thrown in there on top. Might be autumn amber (golden italian + roux dilute) or similar mix. Looks female at the moment but depending on age that could change. Might have to wait to vent sex it.

More pics in better lighting and from the front would help.

Your right it's not old enough to vent sex. This quail is from a batch of eggs I ordered autumn Amber was one of the colors.

Autumn amber probably, then

Breed it to a wild-type and you should get 25% wild 25% italian 25% roux dilute and 25% autumn amber if that is actually what it is.

Oh sorry, I was partially right but not completely. Roux dilute is a recessive sex-linked so it'll depend on whether this bird is a male or female. If it's a male, half of it's sons will be dilute and half of daughters will be non-expressive carriers. If it's a female and has two copies, all sons will be dilute and all daughters will be non-expressive carriers.

How very pretty - I agree with the other posters I think but I’m not real good with this color, I haven’t seen it much at all and I don’t have any.

Can I ask did you order like a mixed batch of eggs? I also did that and I’m on day 6! 23 out of 24 heartbeats I had a bad cracked one
