I don't know the name of the color but a lot of mine will show that color as chicks and then grow into a red breasted of some sort. Most still retain some of the speckles but they get a lot darker as they get older. I'll try to get a picture tomorrow of one that is not quite adult yet.
Thanks for the input, I am used to Blueface and wild colored ones I was thrilled when I finally got a bunch of golden pearls and my latest batch of eBay eggs yielded silver, white and that oddball.
I agree with yellowherb about them being red breasteds, not the wild type though. I had twin buttons with that color, here are their pics then and now.
Here are some of my speckled red breasted young quail. They are just nearing mature ages and wanting to start breeding. It can be hard to sex this color since the females often develop a smile bib similar to the males, theirs are brown rather than the stark white of the male. Most of my chicks are this color and the parents are normal red breasted, red breasted pearl, pearl and red breasted hens.
I think they are pretty with all their multitude of colors but they can be very camouflaged in certain situations.
