What color is this little guy? cuckoo, splash??

I hatched this chick out about 2.5 weeks ago... "He" looks to have cuckoo type feathering, but I'm dumbfounded as to how that could have happened. His Dad would have been my blue marans, and the hen was one of my bantams, just not sure which one. I do not have any cuckoo patterned birds in my mixed flock - the only thing close is a pair of "crele" polish, and as you can see, this guy has no polish blood in him what so ever. Could he just be a very evenly patterned splash?

are any of your bantam hens white? if so, he is probably hers and she is carrying ghost barring (barred white feather)

That definitely looks like barring to me. You have a mystery on your hands.

Well, I'll post pictures of my girls tonight, and will gwt close ups of my rooster. I have no blue or white hens, only couldve been from my silver duckwing Phoenix, BLRW bantam, or one of my columbian/Millie Cochins. I know it wasn't any of my big girls (too small an egg), but they are all BA's split to lavender anyway. So, as you've surmised, I've got a true genetic conundrum on my hands!
