According to the calculator, you have made a sex link hatch. The slate colored ones are supposed to be female Tri-Color Mottled Slates and the other color is supposed to be Barred Semi-Color Semi-Gray Dilute Lilac males.Mom is self blue , dad is royal palm. I talked with Kevin Porter and he said they are sex linked but you would not be able to tell the genders apart at this age.According to the calculator, you have made a sex link hatch. Did you show Porter the pics?I talked with Kevin Porter and he said they are sex linked but you would not be able to tell the genders apart at this age.
Kevin looked at the blue slate poult on Facebook and dated he should be a blue mottled slate. He did not respond to my inquiry and pictures of the off colored poult. He could be offspring of my Narragansett hen but she is broad breasted crossed. Her babies are huge and still quite broad breasted... certainly not blue. Most of her poults are royal palm. As she is bred back to her father. The royal palm is my only Tom .Did you show Porter the pics?
When a poult comes out an unexpected color, it is usually because one of the parents is carrying a hidden recessive gene or else the parents aren't what they are claimed to be. I have seen many turkey hatching eggs listed on eBay that the pictures of the parents are clearly not what they are said to be.
One such case that comes to mind is the person selling eggs from his Tri-color Palm as being from a Royal Palm.
The slate colored poult in this photo is a Tri-Color Mottled Slate. It is from a Sweetgrass tom over a Blue Slate hen.
Based on parents, I would agree. Most of the time I would not be able to distinguish a Mottled Slate poult from a Slate poult from the poult color. Once in a while a TCM Slate will have a small spot of brown on it but not always. Not all TCM Slates are created equal since yours should be Bb1 Ccg Dd n- while mine is Bb1 Ccg Dd N-. Mine does not have a Narragansett gene. These pics are of my plain blue chich. Mr spotter says this is a mottled blue slate based on parents and pictures.
