OH MY GOODNESS!!! That peacock dress is amazing!!! Much more then I expected when I clicked on the link. I'll be keeping the picture and sharing with others. Thanks.
Family and friends always ask for the feathers so mine are given away. I do have my stash that are the cream of the crop that I rotate yearly to keep them fresh. Regarding only breeding the pure Green peafowl....it's a wonderful thought but expensive to get started in for a hobbiest. They can only be bought from the most reputable breeders then it's difficult to sell the off spring because people don't want to pay the price. Not sure how you'd convince buyers they are in fact "pure". The 3 Green I've bought from 3 different people all swore they are pure, LOL!!! I've found I can release my 75% Green blood and they range near home so in a way I prefer the Spalding. I've only managed hatching 1 supposedly pure Green and it's like a Wild Indian. If I were to release it I'm sure that would be the last I see of it. Most people in this area wanting peafowl intend to free range them only having inadequate pens for them temporarily. These are only my humble thoughts. For me they're good ones because I'm dedicated to the birds I have. Can't see myself sending them away to upgrade my stock. This is their home and family now. I'm stuck!!!!!
Regarding Pied, they intrigue me but breeding some gorgeous unusual ones would be pure luck with me. I'll never understand all the color genetics, LOL!!! I read through what someone shares and my head is spinning trying to sort out what I just read. I do have a beautiful 3 year old Pied male I raised from a chick and his sister. I just bought a male and female Blue Silver Pied with the male having some white eyes at 2 years old. Now I need to figure out what to breed with what to get some nice chicks. I'd love to have an all India Blue with white eyes but managing one is another story. I'm having fun, getting plenty of exercise and love my birds, 2 Mini Aussies and a wonderful husband.
