What color should I try to breed to make money?

OH MY GOODNESS!!! That peacock dress is amazing!!! Much more then I expected when I clicked on the link. I'll be keeping the picture and sharing with others. Thanks.

Family and friends always ask for the feathers so mine are given away. I do have my stash that are the cream of the crop that I rotate yearly to keep them fresh. Regarding only breeding the pure Green peafowl....it's a wonderful thought but expensive to get started in for a hobbiest. They can only be bought from the most reputable breeders then it's difficult to sell the off spring because people don't want to pay the price. Not sure how you'd convince buyers they are in fact "pure". The 3 Green I've bought from 3 different people all swore they are pure, LOL!!! I've found I can release my 75% Green blood and they range near home so in a way I prefer the Spalding. I've only managed hatching 1 supposedly pure Green and it's like a Wild Indian. If I were to release it I'm sure that would be the last I see of it. Most people in this area wanting peafowl intend to free range them only having inadequate pens for them temporarily. These are only my humble thoughts. For me they're good ones because I'm dedicated to the birds I have. Can't see myself sending them away to upgrade my stock. This is their home and family now. I'm stuck!!!!!

Regarding Pied, they intrigue me but breeding some gorgeous unusual ones would be pure luck with me. I'll never understand all the color genetics, LOL!!! I read through what someone shares and my head is spinning trying to sort out what I just read. I do have a beautiful 3 year old Pied male I raised from a chick and his sister. I just bought a male and female Blue Silver Pied with the male having some white eyes at 2 years old. Now I need to figure out what to breed with what to get some nice chicks. I'd love to have an all India Blue with white eyes but managing one is another story. I'm having fun, getting plenty of exercise and love my birds, 2 Mini Aussies and a wonderful husband.

well one of your silver pied peacock mated with those blue hen will give you some blue w/e.

just check my post breeding chart....just add any color(non sex link) in place of bronze...that will show you what u will get. change sex link color on the chart works the same with all 4. same with patterns , i us bs ,but works same with any pattern, except pieds.

reason i said that about your green hen...waste if she is pure ,not to raise green, males are used alot to produce spalding....but extra male can be found....not easy finding a green hen.

Deerman, the Green hen I believed for sure to be pure was sold to me by Dale Fisher. When she started getting white feathers on her chest he offered to swap her out but I decided this is her home now. Some research has led me to believe the white has nothing to do with her purity but perhaps an issue with feed or other elements. What do you think? Dale still swears she is pure. The last hen I bought I also believe to be pure but she may be a different species of the Green. I forget the 3 they are. I'll get some pictures ..... think we have some sunny days coming up soon. I so appreciate you helping me out with all this.

Breeding is going to be a mess this summer. Only have 4 pens and when I try to move the proper birds together for breeding I get nothing but chaos....none want to get along so this year may be a bust unless I can get my attached pea courtyard built. Then they can duke it out but have enough room to run/fly from each other until they get used to getting along. It doesn't work well in the 10 by 30 foot pens. I'm hoping to make the courtyard safe from predators so the youngsters can reside in it with the breeders having the pens. Not wanting it to look like more pens so thinking of using non-climb fencing, netting on top that could be removed at some point and hot wire around the perimeter. Will probably add some smaller wire at the bottom and lay it out on the ground to keep things from digging under like we did the pens. All this is due to us living in a subdivision with deed restrictions and a home owners assoc to deal with. Don't have it all figured out yet. This weekend we're running water back there and I'll have a faucet in each pen....that's going to be nice.

the few white feather on the green hen...i have heard of that before in pure birds, but really don't have that much knownledge on the green, someone like Doug from D & M Farms could give you a good idea from pics

How does that home school thing work anyway? I am a school teacher and could never be able to teach my children all their high school subjects. I just do not know all the math, science, english, music, art and physics that they need for life. That is why they have six different teachers every day.

My son is in 3rd grade. A Beka homeschool curriculum, lays out the lesson, tells you what to say and examples of what you are teaching and lots of review. Teaching him isn't the hard part, getting him around the children, processes and just different things in life he needs for socialization is the hard part.
