What color's do Swedish ducks come in? (new pics & ?)

Here's my best guess, based on the assumption that your duck has two doses of Extended Black, two doses of Not Blue and one dose of Brown Dilution (only one dose as it's sex linked). That combo should produce a chocolate female.....I think.....! (I don't have my duck colour breeding book in front of me..... I'm only learning so the above is from memory

).

If you mate her to your black drake all the offspring will be black. Any of them may have a white bib. This is assuming that your drake is a pure bred Swedish with no unwanted recessive genes. This assumption may not be correct - eg your drake may also be carrying Brown Dilution and if he is then you'll chocolate females and various other colours in the males.

If you mate her to your blue drake I am not sure what you'll get - blue changes things and I can't remember how it interacts with Beown Dilution.

Sorry, I am reading this as I am trying to figure out a little bit more about Swedes. I have three black ones and I am reasonably sure they are not completely purebred although the ducks look it. My drake is mostly white with loud spots of black and my ducks are patterned properly but they are truly greenish blue black feathers. Is that what the feathers look like on a black swede or are they supposed to be black black? We (I mean the ducks) just hatched out our (oops I mean their) first babies and one had a rouen head so who knows? I just want to learn because I love the Swedes, I wanted blue but I found these just down the road two months ago for only $5 each and they have already brooded and given us babies!

The black ones should be really black (like the colour of a crow or raven) with a green sheen (but usually not as much of a green sheen as a Cayuga). When you say 'blue black' do you mean dark grey?

Here's some pics of my black and blue swedes.
Oberon my black drake.

And SilverMist my I don't know yet.

They are only 9 weeks old in these pics so they still have some fluff on there necks and heads.

I am guessing that chocolate is a sex linked color that only shows on females the few chocolate ducks that that I have heard of all work that way. males can carry the gene but it will be hidden on them. like I said this is only a guess so do not bank on it.

Goosedragon, you are right that chocolate is sex-linked (as in carried on the z chromosome). But both males and females can be chocolate. The different is that females will be chocolate with only one dose, while males need two doses. So, in general, it's more likely that chocolate females will pop up.

If you mate a chocolate drake to a black duck all the female ducklings will be chocolate and all the males will be black.

My white crested and my rougen had these babys not quiet sure how that works but they look like blue or silver swedish idk they look nothing like there parents how does that work ?

I absolutely adore swedish ducks. I can't wait to try for swedish crested next year and am desperately hoping for a silver or blue. my blue looks really really blue like the blue car towels in the right light but grey normally.
