So here's the story on grit. Chickens don't have teeth. They eat small rocks called grit which go in their crop and help break down the food they eat. They don't necessarily need grit if they are eating strictly chicken food. If, however, they eat anything else they will need some grit. You can go to the feed store and they will sell it by the bag. Some people provide it in a separate bowl, some throw it out with the scratch, while others mix it in with the food. It's up to you.Thanks for all the great info! But....what is grit? Like grits cereal? And can I also ask a, ahem, poo question. I have noticed at times there appears to be diarrhea poo, but I'm not sure who the offender is. Is this a cause for concern if it persists?
