Yesterday my yearling peahen randomly laid her very first egg ever. And it was a very nice egg!
I haven't researched much about laying because all my peas (another peahen and a peacock) are yearlings and I didn't think I would have to deal with this for another year! They have gone on a few escapades and met up with some older peas recently, so I suppose there is the possibility that the egg is fertile, but what I'm mostly wondering about is the fact that she laid the egg from a perch. I've read that is normal, so would she then make a nest and then somehow get the egg into the nest? Or do they normally make a nest and then lay the eggs in the nest. Did she lay from the perch and not make a nest because she is young and doesn't know what she's doing? The whole egg and nest thing and what happens first is confusing to me! Plus she has been extra mean to my other peahen who isn't laying.
Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!
