I purchased 2 Araucana chicks approx. 6 weeks ago, they were 5 weeks old then so they are now almost 12 weeks old. They have had voracious appetites and thirst the whole time I have owned them. I thought that was normal because they are good sized chicks. Everything was fine until just today when I went out to feed them and I noticed the rear end of the white one the feathers were all stained and I thought it was from the shavings so I took her out and looked closely and it appears to be a big clump of bloody mass on her butt. I checked the blue one and she seems fine, but just her feathers are a little stained on the very tips. They were fine yesterda other than a little on the sluggish side, but I attributed that to it being cold the night before even though they are in an insulated coop. But they are droopy winged today as well as the other symptoms I described. I searched the boards and cannot seem to find anything, so I am asking for your help. These are such beautiful birds so I need to help them.
ETA: I also wanted to say that the bloody clot is VERY DARK blood, not the bright red.

Sounds like it's possible cocci. You'll need to treat them with amprolium. Do a search for cocci cure, I'm at work and can't remember the medications. One is Corrid and the other is Sulmet, I think. There's pros and cons to both. If you have a farm store in your area there might be some people there who know what to do and they might be able to sell you some medication.

Good luck. Until you can get them medication, make sure the food they're eating is very high in nutrition; cooked eggs, hamburger, yogurt (plain, no fat) and they have access to lots of water. Keep their area clean so they don't get reinfected. Keep them warm and dry, bring them inside if you can while it's cold.

I am not so sure it is cocci because there is almost a "clot" of this gel matter on the butt of the one gal, the others feathers are just stained from laying next to her and the other bird in with them is completely dry in the back end. I went out to look again and in the morning I am going to bath her to see where this is all coming from. I am thinking she got pecked maybe by the other hen in with her. She is the white bird, so maybe she had something the other 2 began pecking at seeing as it happened so quickly (overnight in fact). I have had chicks with cocci in the past and that allways started with stools tinged with pink and I was able to treat before it ever got any worse. This is aweful looking and I would have seen signs before it got this bad.
