When I let me hens out this morning, all seemed normal. I tossed some mealworms to them before going back inside, but noticed my silver laced was roosting on the outdoor perch not going for the treat and she was all puffed up and sleepy looking. I checked her over the best I could think to and she looks normal overall. She jumped off while I was looking at her and went to this spot and has been laying there all puffed up since. What could cause this?

When is the last time she laid an egg?

Is she pooping? What's that like?

It may be worth feeling inside the vent for an egg. While you have her, look her over for lice/mites and feel her abdomen for bloating or fluid.
She laid yesterday. Her poop seems normal as far as I’ve seen. I will check for bugs and feel her abdomen! Thank you!

Her chest feels warm to the touch and puffy compared to the other girls.

Did she have anything to eat/drink this morning?
Any bad odor on her breath?
She may be having a crop issue, but I've often found that's a symptom of something else going on. I would make sure she's got water but wouldn't necessarily push food, especially if the crop feels squishy or fluid filled.
I usually start with giving some coconut oil and go from there as described in this article.

Thank you!!

When I have a bird acting 'off' I isolate bird in a wire cage within the coop for a day or two....so I can closely monitor their intake of food and water, crop function(checking at night and in morning before providing more feed), and their poops. Feel their abdomen, from below vent to between legs, for squishy or hard swelling. Check for external parasites or any other abnormalities.

Best to put crate right in coop or run so bird is still 'with' the flock.
I like to use a fold-able wire dog crate (24"L x 18"W x 21"H) with smaller mesh(1x2) on bottom of crate under tray.
Then you can put tray underneath crate to better observe droppings without it being stepped in. If smaller mesh is carefully installed, tray can still be used inside crate.

Thank you! I will check her again in the morning. She got a little more active towards the late afternoon, so I’m hoping she’s feeling a little better. Going to check her closely again her first thing in the morning. Her laying patterns show she’d be due to lay tomorrow. I’ll keep a close eye on here.
