It really truly does not sound like a coon to me. 8 expremely large birds, gone with no trace?? No, it was something else. A boar or a bear. That's my guess. And yeah, right now their bellies are full, but in a day or two, they'll be back since they know where the free meal is. I'd have my gun ready too.

your answer is a coon. we have had this many times just like ur fence ended up all pent and chickens fulled through they some how un locked the lock to the back door of the coop somehow they are smart little things that need to be gone!!!!!!

I'm going to agree with raccoon. I've seen pics of a Havahart that a raccoon decimated while trapped...and we have them here that could rival our 100+# Choc Lab...a pair were getting busy in the middle of the street a couple of weeks ago and the noise was unbearable. I live in the middle of a 100K+ city, too!

They can tear apart welded wire, and I try to always encourage folks to make certain birds don't roost anywhere an animal can reach through any kind of wire. I always have wood where they roost to prevent that, ever since a neighbor had big Reds pulled through chicken wire, bit by bit

Raccoons are known to pull chickens through the holes of a fence. That's common behavior for them.

Sorry about your loss:'( I do not think a raccoon could damage your fence with the welded wire or take that many birds. I think you either have a bear or dog, maybe coyote . Raccoons will grab any part of a bird they can reach and pull it to where they can chew it. I lost three birds one night since the coon only ate the heads it pulled out. Now I put chicken wire inside the 2x 4 and welded wire outside. Maybe after hearing your story I need chain link! I also lost a bunch of birds to feral dogs, they ripped off the chicken wire from the tractor and killed almost all the chickens. It is heartbreaking. I had raised them all from chicks, and they were almost to pol. I hope you get whatever it was. I shot a coon, skinned it, cooked it and fed it to my chickens and dog
