We have a flock of 1-4 year old mixed-breed hens. I found this is the coop this morning, under the roosts. I thought it was a deformed egg, but the outside was leathery so I cut it open. It looks like a gizzard to me! The girls are all acting fine, they are confined to a fully enclosed coop/run, and I haven't give any meat to them outside of a few bits of leftover meatloaf.
(We do have one hen who doesn't lay regularly - we just get a 'wind' egg from her from time to time, and we have another who had prolapse, but she's back to normal laying of BIG eggs.)
What could this be???
