I don't know what they are, but they sure are adorable little fluffballs! I'll be watching for the results though...the genetics of it all is fascinating.

Congrats!

They look like Texas A&M chicks. Wonder if one of your JBs could have a hidden white gene. I do not know a TON about genetics but always love flukes like this!

I was wondering about a A&M just strange it popped up now after all the eggs I have hatched now I get 2.... Well they are cute I will keep them!!! I guess I will watch them grow and see what I get.

Yep, they look like A&Ms. Hopefully Monarc will pop in and explain how this can happen. Someone else had the same thing happen, an A&M from browns, and Monarc explained it to us all.

On a side note, Tam, I gave eggs from the browns I got from you to a friend to incubate and every one of them hatched! Fertile group, they are!

It does look like an A&M.

I'm not monarc, but I think I can help (call me a protoge!)

A&M is recessive to everything. So the parent birds would each have to be carriers of the A&M genes (since they obviously are not A&Ms themselves). In some fluke of breeding, both of their A&M genes joined up to create the little cutie-pie you have there.

think of it like x's. We'll say (for simplicity's sake) that both birds genes are Xx. The breedings could either be XX, XX, Xx, or xx. We'll say that the 'x' gene is the A&M, so only about 1 in 4 chicks that you hatch will look like A&M, and 1 in 4 will be carriers of it. 50% of the chicks (theoretically, not always obviously) will be 100% for brown, 25% will be 50/50 brown/A&M, and 25% will be 100% for A&M.

Wow. Well I guess I have 2 A&M's then.

Roxie glad to hear they are fertile mertiles.. Your birthday is coming up you still getting that incubator?? You should be able to hatch a ton of quail and you know they are fertile...

It Has To Be A Recessive Gene In The Parents. Or Maybe Aliens Came And Took The 2 Real Eggs And Replaced Them With These When You Were Asleep? Lol
