What did Meyers send me? Rare breed assortment

View attachment 4042473View attachment 4042474

Snapped a few pictures while I had them all contained while cleaning their pen - they’re 4 weeks today.

I think I have 2 cream legbar cockerels in the first pic, and not sure about the other two? There’s one with that barred feathering turning a “wheat” color with feathered feet I think might be a golden cuckoo marans? The two in the first picture have clean legs though.

Bottom pic is the Swedish flower hen cockerel on the right, I’m not sure the breed of the cockerel on the left.

There are still quite a few I’m not sure of on breed, but I’ve been really happy with the mix and quality of the birds!

There is one that has stayed much smaller than the rest, I believe a splash Marans. She had quite a bit of pasty butt early on, but aside from being small, she’s otherwise keeping up with the rest.

I believe I also got a Splash Ameraucana, and two Swedish Flower Hens.

I’ll try to update with more pictures soon for help IDing!
Looks like what ever you have you’ve got quite a few roosters!!
Very strange for CLBs to be Roos as they are sexable as chicks

Pretty sure the black ones with feathered feet are marans(probably black copper), the gray/blue ones look like blue copper marans. The brown ones with stripes are easter egger ameraucanas. And I think the little yellow ones with feathered feet are bantams. I might be wrong, these are just educated guesses based off chicks I have raised, but I'm pretty confident about the black copper marans and the easter eggers

I also could be wrong, but I don’t believe Meyers sends bantams with their rare breed assortment. I think you’re definitely right on the Marans!

I did order 15 of the 25 straight run, so I’m actually surprised I don’t have more cockerels!
Yes, just out of interest what country did you order them from?

Because I’m from Britain and we’ve got a lot of “barnyard chickens” such as the pure Orpington’s, cream leg bars. Because that are a British breed they can be sexed from birth. But if you got American versions they probably can’t be. If you do live in America I wouldn’t be surprised to see some Orpington’s and cream leg bars in the mix as they are very rare in other countries apparently.

I would say that the red ones are rhoad island reds though.

Yes I live in America! That’s interesting!

Two of my favorites

Picked up my Meyers order this morning! I ordered 10 female + 15 straight run of the rare breed assortment, plus the two freebies. All 27 arrived upright! I’ve never had chicks shipped before and was a nervous wreck - the tracking never updated and I was so worried they were stuck in Cleveland!

I had called my local PO earlier in the week to let them know they were coming, and they called me first thing this morning (as I was already pulling into the parking lot 🤣)

So ≈ 48 hours from hatch to my brooder, not too bad! None appear to be struggling as of yet.

One came banded for ID, but I otherwise haven’t had any luck with the chick identification page photos Meyers offers (by my own inexperience).

What does it look like I’ve got here?

Got the most of these, 10 I think - feathered feet:

Likely Black Copper Marans or Olive Eggers.

2 of these: (the toes are fine, straightened out when I moved it)

Cream Legbar cockerels

Many options as they're wild type. Instead of me typing a million possibilities let's wait

3 of these, love their feathered “boots” 😅:

Splash Marans

Here’s the banded one, I’m assuming SFH roo? The other option for yellow band was a black-split lavender Orpington:

Agreed-likely Swedish Flower Hen

This one, who wasn’t happy to have his picture taken apparently:

Golden Cuckoo Marans

This one, with two random black splotches on its back:

Egger of some sort

Salmon Faverolles

Right is Splash Ameraucana or Egger, left let's wait. Guess is another Egger

Appears to be two more Swedish Flower Hens

And here’s the whole lot upon opening the box! There was a divider separating them into two groups.

Breed guess on this guy?
IMG_2522.jpeg

Or this round one? 😅 also cockerel?
IMG_2526.png

A couple of the black chicks are starting to get crests - so not Marans? I’m assuming eggers of some sort? Also cockerel?
IMG_2525.jpeg

I gave two of the black chicks + one of the salmon faverolles to my mom.
Harder to get a pic of, and only 4 weeks so still early yet, but I’m hoping this one is a pullet.

Two of the three splash Marans, I’m hoping pullets.

My gut is telling me the golden cuckoo Marans is a cockerel, haven’t been able to get a clear picture yet but I’ll post when I do.

I only planned on keeping 2 roosters from this group, the SF and another one… it’s going to be hard to choose!
