What did you do in the garden today?

Couple snaps from the front yard this morning. The purple thing is a sage of some sort I think. The yellow flowers are on our Mexican Bird of Paradise. Both plants were in the laat chance aisle at Lowes when I picked them up.

I did clean out the coops this week and put all the bedding out into the runs. Added about 2 loads of leaves into each coop for the summer. Cleaned out the nests and added pine straw instead of shavings. The girls seem to like the pine straw ok.

I had to go out this afternoon and cover up the garden. Temps are supposed to be 37 in the morning, but our temps tend to run a bit lower since we are in a little hollow. Sure don't want anything to freeze at this point.

This year has been colder than normal, and colder longer than normal.

Planted two bare root hazelnut trees (super small), a pee wee hydrangea, two different varieties of strawberries into different pots because I wasn't sure where to place them in the ground, and also put in three different dahlia tubers that came from Baker Creek rare seeds. (I love that website.. I have bought way too many seeds from them this year.)

I need to till more areas in the yard and actually direct seed many things because I haven't made the time to create seedlings. Oh well. We'll see how it all goes. So much to do. So little time and energy to do it all.
