What did you do in the garden today?

After reading a bit about them it seems that they like the moist wood from a raised bed which might be why you’re getting so many. I read a lot about especially when the plants are young to keep a 3 inch base around it because they like to eat anything at ground level first. Some people said they sprinkled DE or Cayanne pepper to try to deter them. I saw this creative idea also. It looks simple enough seems worth a shot

Today in the garden I finished raking in the compost for the area I’m putting my squash peppers and sunflower. Trying to figure out how I can squeeze some cantaloupe and pumpkin in there somewhere. I even am expanding my garden and another 10 x 25’ but I’m still running out of room. And I’m going to try to reduce the spacing on some of my vegetables and see what happens

Rachel. You don't need to make your trellis any taller than you can reach. The plants will grow as high as YOU DECIDE YOU WILL LET THEM! I use an old metal swing set, which has lasted for years. This gives me 18 l.f. of trellis row. I have found that if I lean a 2 x 4 or piece of conduit up against the top horizontal bar of the A, I can then use that pole to stabilize myself as I lean into the middle to harvest. I can move that pole up and down both sides of the row as I go. Gives a new definition to pole dancing!

Exactly! It's the decomposing railroad ties. They are living in it. They munch on my seedlings and last year, ate at the cucumbers that touched the ground. They were sitting on straw, so I don't think that would help. My husband says he is considering removing the railroad ties.

:yuckyuck Pole dancing!

Welp, my bamboo bean teepees are LEANING due to our 30 mph winds over the past two days. Argh. Will be reseating the poles this evening. Luckily no beans have germinated yet.

I need to get my seed strawberries in the ground this evening after my son's track meet. They look great! I hope they yield and that the berries taste good--they're new for me this year. I also need to interplant some more carrots and transplant the cilantro and thyme into the raised beds. It's supposed to be nice here the rest of the week and the wind seems to have died down. Hope it stays this way.

I watered this morning and wet down the hay in the coop yard. The chickens have pretty well demolished the compost pile and when I sprayed it with water this morning it smelled like rich earth. I love that smell :love
Some of the shorter sunflowers have sprouted and the basil wants to bolt with all the heat.
I bought some top soil today for the grass seed...the wind has kept me inside and it's coming back again unfortunately, then heat back up to the mid 90's next week.
