What did you do in the garden today?

The strawberry seeds I planted ("Mignonette") and were supposed to take 30-40 days to germinate are doing great! They germinated in about 10 days, with more following over the next couple of weeks. Now they are producing their first real leaves. Pretty good germination too, approx 60% (which is good for this seed). Supposed to grow a small, but intensely flavored berry. Hoping they keep growing well! I also ordered 1 batch of 20 bare root strawberry plants, should arrive late April/early May. First time ever growing strawberries!

Yummy strawberries. I've not figured out where I could plant those yet. Good luck with them.

Thanks! They will be in pots on my deck. Strawberries are just cheerful to see grow, bloom, and produce fruit, so wanted them in view of my kitchen window.

I really need to come up with more cold storage for my produce. I can and freeze as much as I am able, however my basement doesn't always stay consistently cool.

Some relatives of mine have a very big garden, including over 100 fruit trees. They don't sell anything, but kids and friends can take away, they make cider, jam, and dried fruit, or they barter for eggs from someones chickens, etc. They needed cold storage, so built a room in corner of garage (about 8'x12' is my guess). To cool the room they added a window a/c unit, but did something to the thermostat to allow it to go lower than the usual 60 or 65F that an a/c is usually programmed for. This has worked flawlessly for them for probably 8-10 years. Assuming in part bc the room is well insulated and small enough to not overload the a/c. Spouse and I have discussed using a small area of our barn for this purpose, since barn has electric. But, we are a few years away from having that much produce.

Threw some wood chips onto one of the flower beds and threw a few into the cottage garden.

Didn’t have enough to finish it though. I’ve ordered a ton of stones to do up the pathway again.
Getting abnormaly warm weather for this time of the year here in Ireland, Highs of 15°c.
