What did you do in the garden today?

I was so busy catching up and commenting on other people's post that I forgot to say what I did in the garden today. I got a good part of the grass cut before the rains moved in! I need to/want to run some twine or fishing line or something for the runner beans to run on and for the cucumbers to climb, but didn't get to it today. Did have my hubby help me cut off the extra part on the cattle panel fence. The blade on the sawzall barely made it through it!! So we bought some new metal blades when we went to pick up chicken food. I also asked him to look for a small packet of sunflower seeds for me to plant...
He came out with a 25 lb pound of BOSS! :th:lau
He said a lady in the store said she feeds it to the birds and always has sunflowers come up too! I guess my chickens will be enjoying a treat of BOSS for a long time.
Hey, he tried.:idunno:D
Spent about 6 hours with the granddaughter that just turned 2 years old this past Friday. I had her help me bake brownies!! :love She did a pretty good job cracking the eggs, but when she would go to pour something into the mixing bowl, she always tried to throw the measuring cup or whatever in with the ingredient!! :lau

*Spoiler Alert! This post loaded all Wonky’ I’m too tired to fix it*

Baby Toad Season. :hit
They’re everywhere can’t help but run them over with the car. I try not to look as my chickens massacre them.
I’ve had toads that I fed mealworms

The wind was awful today by 10:30 locked up the girls and went inside. I watered tonight and tied up all the leggy flowers that now will get proper sun since I trimmed the trees.
The End

Can you show me/us a picture of your ladder for the cucumbers. I would like to see what you did! Thanks!

I’ll take one, but it’s quite unimpressive, I assure you. After two marriages to carpenters, the first of which insisted on doing everything himself, I am finally learning to use some tools. The cucumber ladder was a training exercise in the chop saw and self-drilling screws. I think it’s much too short.

The cucumbers seem happy enough. But they are still growing!

ya. Here too. The masses of bugs can be seen on radar systems. Buffalo gnats, flies, mosquitoes, just gross icky bite-y things.

Do the gnats bite at night? I swear I have new bites every morning. Since retiring (last week!)
I spend the whole day outside. Maybe I will have to use repellant in addition to the tick protection. :rant

Good morning gardeners and Happy 4th of July. Talking bug repellent: I never had a problem with bugs, especially ticks when my little dogs were alive. They wore Seresto collars all year long and I suspect since they slept in my bed I was "covered" by the collar as well. I've toyed with the idea of getting one of those collars just for me. Instead I opted for the stuff you spray on your clothes. Yesterday my neighbor's gardener dropped by (unannounced, but that was OK) and cut down my sad, sick looking rhododendron. It was not healthy at all and growing tall under the power lines. So it's gone now and I have a new spot for planting flowers. This morning I watered the herbs I have planted in pots, then picked more peas and a couple of broccoli shoots. I also did a little weeding in the beds I didn't use the straw mulch. I could kick myself for not using the mulch before. Even though it's a bit expensive I think it is so worth it. No weeds where I put it and despite not having rain over the past several days the soil under the straw is still damp. Have a great day everyone.

Mr. Fatty says Happy Fourth Of July!
Folks around here start early freaking the animals out. Yesterday our Fire Department (all volunteers) rode their rigs house to house
(annual fundraiser)
blasting the horns and sirens. Where there were children they’d let each one have a turn.
This morning cannons fired at 6:00. Calling everyone to the pancake breakfast in one of our parks.
Tonight the Fireworks. Our canyon is only 2 miles wide so sounds are amplified and the Fireworks are right over your head.
There’s a parade ... all half mile of it!
Small town Fun lol.
Have a great day Gardeners :frow
