What did you do in the garden today?

Good morning gardeners. I guess my little tomato harvest is finally starting. I picked 2 Romas and 2 regular tomatoes. Of course there were more cherry tomatoes and a couple of cucumbers. There are a few small butternut squash developing. Hopefully they will be able to mature before we get a hard frost. The green beans are developing as well. I ate my last zucchini with dinner last night. I still have a small yellow squash for another day. I made my jar labels and got all the canned peaches and pickles into the basement. I was getting a little claustrophobic with all those jars decorating my kitchen. I agree @Sueby, I know my coop and run is sturdy enough to keep out most of the wildlife in my area except for a full grown bear. However, there is more readily available food around that is easier to get to so the chickens should be fine. We have to buy plastic bags for our garbage collection and so far I've not seen any bags ripped open by wild animals. The garbage collectors don't always make it to our street on the designated pick up day and it is not infrequent the trash bags are left overnight. Still, no rummaging so far. Have a great day everyone and I hope you don't have any serious predator encounters.

I have lost chickens to bobcat and mountain lion... My new poultry house will be mountain lion proof. the goats will have their own room in the poultry house... I had four before... Kept my horse company and me full of goat stories. LOL

Along with the aquaponics I hope to start a fodder system for all the critters.

I've been harvesting and canning almost everyday trying to get ahead of our crops. So far Ive canned 6 quart jars of salsa, 7 quart jars of tomatoes, froze 6 small broccoli portions, and froze 4 bags of banana peppers. I still have more to do but not everything is fully ripe so I'm taking a day to relax. I've pretty much accepted that I planted the luffa too late. Next season I'm starting the seeds inside in January. Its grown up 6 feet but no flowers or fruit. I have the start of buds on them just nothing yet and it's growing late in the season. My cucumbers are doing poorly as well. The last couple of years they have always done better than expected but this year they didnt want to vine up the trellis. Ive only gotten a few cucumbers. I think I planted those too early and stunted them. I guess there's no better way to learn what you're doing wrong than to do it wrong to begin with

I have room for goats and I would love to get some. However, the idea of shoveling through 3 feet of snow to get to their barn is what keeps me back. I downloaded a template last year @IamRainey. Nothing fancy. I bought labels but used them up, but this year I just printed them on paper and glued them on with a glue stick.
