Good morning gardeners. I guess my little tomato harvest is finally starting. I picked 2 Romas and 2 regular tomatoes. Of course there were more cherry tomatoes and a couple of cucumbers. There are a few small butternut squash developing. Hopefully they will be able to mature before we get a hard frost. The green beans are developing as well. I ate my last zucchini with dinner last night. I still have a small yellow squash for another day. I made my jar labels and got all the canned peaches and pickles into the basement. I was getting a little claustrophobic with all those jars decorating my kitchen. I agree @Sueby, I know my coop and run is sturdy enough to keep out most of the wildlife in my area except for a full grown bear. However, there is more readily available food around that is easier to get to so the chickens should be fine. We have to buy plastic bags for our garbage collection and so far I've not seen any bags ripped open by wild animals. The garbage collectors don't always make it to our street on the designated pick up day and it is not infrequent the trash bags are left overnight. Still, no rummaging so far. Have a great day everyone and I hope you don't have any serious predator encounters.
